First Nations Peoples and Edible Insects

Edible insects have been a traditional food source for First Nations Peoples of Australia for thousands of years. Over 60 different insect species have been recorded as being eaten by First Nations Peoples, including witjuti (witchetty) grubs, bogong moths, honeypot ants, and green tree ants.

First Nations Peoples are playing an important role in the development of the edible insect industry in Australia. They are sharing their traditional knowledge about insects with businesses, and they are also working to ensure that the industry is sustainable and respectful of the environment.
